Annual Goals - 2017 |
|
Educator preparation program improvement goals for the upcoming program year |
Goal #1 |
The School of Education and Social Policy has many districts that we partner with, and the focus this year is to identify ways that we can deepen our connections. This will include the administration of surveys, meetings with school officials and visits to partner schools. |
Goal #2 |
As the number of our programs are growing and we are increasing in enrollment in all programs, we are working to ensure that curriculum and instruction are fully implemented, while monitoring students needs. |
Goal #3 |
To support the growth of programs, additional faculty and staff are being added to the School of Education and Social Policy, to provide expertise and capacity to support our students. |
Annual Goals - 2016 |

Educator preparation program improvement goals from the prior year |
Goal #1 |
The School of Education and Social Policy has been working closely and in response to requests from our partner districts to develop and add new educator preparation program offerings to help meet the needs for new leaders, support personnel (guidance) and teachers. This year we have worked to create, design and are seeking approval from MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) for Administrative Leadership and School Guidance Counseling program expand building upon our successful teacher education programs. In addition a fifth delivery model for our graduate programs has been implemented with the creation of a hybrid competency-based education graduate teacher education program. |
Goal #2 |
Faculty and staff have worked to review all existing programs, as we reconstructed our coursework and field-based experiences to align with the state's revised Professional Standards for Teachers (PST) and to support the full implementation of ESE's new teacher assessment tool - Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP). |
Goal #3 |
Field-Based Experiences have been closely reviewed, as part of the PST Implementation requirements and CAP continuous improvement initiatives. The expectations, experiences and outcomes of pre-practicum and practicum have been reviewed and modified to enhance and increase the duration of school-based experiences, to better prepare aspiring teachers. |
Progress Toward Goals - 2016 |
|
Progress made toward prior program year goals |
Goal #1 |
The School of Education and Social Policy faculty and stafff submitted and were granted ESE Informal Approval for Administrative Leadership and School Guidance programs. Both programs are currently advertising and recruiting students for enrollment. |
Goal #2 |
Faculty and staff continued efforts to align courses within all the teacher education programs to make needed adjustments to fully implement the new PSTs. In addition, program supervisors worked to pilot the CAP Implementation, in anticipation of the Fall 2016 academic year and full CAP implementation. |
Goal #3 |
Faculty and staff examined how pre-practicum experiences were delivered and student outcomes examined, focusing on students knowledge of the PSTs. Transitioning students to the expectations of the CAP for the academic year was a key area of focus. |
Annual Goals - 2015 |
|

Goal #1 |
Monitoring and managing the growth of the School of Education and Social Policy is an ongoing priority, as providing additional faculty, staff, administrative and supports are crucial to our student's success. |
Goal #2 |
Creating and expanding additional on campus delivery model options at the graduate and undergraduate levels, allows us to reach a wider pool of student applicants with the goal of recruiting a talented and diverse student population. |
Goal #3 |
The graduate programs will be working to fully implement recently revised programs, while providing seamless transitions for those existing students. |
Progress Toward Goals - 2015 |
|
Progress made toward prior program year goals |
Goal #1 |
Merrimack College had an extensive national search resulting in a new dean for the School of Education and Social Policy, who brings tremendous knowledge and experience. An associate dean position has been added, a full-time faculty member and an administrative support staff joined SESP this year, as well. These hires provide additional support and guidance for students in the teacher education programs. |
Goal #2 |
Merrimack College is working strategically, to provide increased access to our teacher education programs by offering several delivery models. These five distinctly different program options have enabled the college to increase access to individuals who are at various points in their educational, career and life. Currently the delivery modes include: a full year graduate fellowship, self-paced graduate program, a newly launched, hybrid competency-based graduate program, a two plus two for those with an associate degree and a long-established traditional undergraduate program. |
Goal #3 |
Graduate programs curriculum revisions and course credit adjustments have been fully implemented, based on a credit consolidation effort, in connection with an overall scheduling overhaul. These alterations to our graduate programs will allow students to have greater access to coursework, as courses can be offered more frequently and with greater predictability. This allows students to set their own pace for program completion. |
